Why Make a KitchenAid Pro Mixer Cover?

If you’re the proud owner of a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, then you know just how invaluable this kitchen gadget can be. But let’s be real – as much as we love our mixers, they’re not exactly the most stylish of appliances. That’s where a custom KitchenAid mixer cover comes in.

You can choose a fabric that matches your kitchen decor, giving your mixer an instant upgrade. Plus, a cover can help keep your mixer clean and free from dust and food particles when not in use.

Keeping your mixer clean and free of dust is not only going to prolong the life of the machine, but it’s also going to make it so that you’re not bummed out to use it because it’s dusty.

And if the mixer cover gets dusty or something gets splashed on it (happens all the time in my kitchen) then you just toss the cover in the wash and you’re ready to keep that mixer clean some more!

What Size KitchenAid Pro Mixer Cover Sewing Pattern Do You Need?

Determining the size of the KitchenAid Pro Mixer Cover you need depends on the specific model of your KitchenAid Mixer, not all mixers are the same size.

KitchenAid offers a range of mixers, like classic, artisan, or professional With the Professional Series includes models such as Pro 500, Pro Line, and Pro 600, among others, and each has slightly different dimensions. Generally, most KitchenAid Professional mixers are around 14-17 inches high, 9 inches wide, and 14 inches deep, but you should always measure your specific model to ensure accuracy. One Easy way to tell if your KitchenAid mixer is a professional one or not is by the size of the bowl, if it is a 4.5 or 5-quart mixer it is not a pro.

This mixer cover sewing pattern, it accounts not only for the mixer’s dimensions but also adds a bit of extra space (about an inch) for ease and seam allowances. I’ve also considered elements like the bowl height, the motor head, and the professional mixer’s design as a bowl-lift model, as these factors affect the shape and size of the cover. This pattern does not include pockets or a pocket but you can add one to match if you want to.

Will This KitchenAid Pro Mixer Cover Sewing Pattern Fit a Regular KitchenAid Mixer?

The short answer is no. The KitchenAid Pro series and the Classic (or regular) stand mixers have noticeable differences in size and design. If you need a KitchenAid Mixer Cover for a Standard Size Mixer, this one is perfect – and is basically the same sewing method we use for the professional line of KitchenAid mixers, so it’s very easy to pull together.

To give you a bit of reasoning, here’s why I made two different patterns:

The Classic mixer generally measures around 14 inches high, 8.7 inches wide, and 14.1 inches deep, making it slightly smaller than the Pro series. On the other hand, the kitchen aid mixer Professional models, like the Pro 600, are typically around 17 inches high, 9 inches wide, and 14 inches deep, reflecting their larger capacity and more powerful motors (although each one is different).

This increased size in the professional models means that a cover pattern is explicitly designed for them would not be an ideal fit for the Classic models. A Pro-specific cover pattern accommodates the whole thing which includes the greater height and width of the Professional series mixers, ensuring a snug and secure fit that won’t slide off or leave parts of the kitchen aid mixer exposed.

Moreover, it’s tailored to the distinct design elements of the Pro series, like the bowl-lift mechanism, which is not a feature of the KitchenAid artisan or the KitchenAid classic mixers. Therefore, using a cover pattern designed specifically for the dimensions and features of the Pro series mixers will yield the best fit and protection for those models.

Again, however, the perfect sized one for the standard-size (Artisan & Classic) mixer can be found in our KitchenAid Stand Mixer Cover post.

Notes about choosing fabric for this KitchenAid Professional Mixer pattern

When choosing the fabric or material for this KitchenAid Professional Mixer Cover Sewing Pattern, you have several options to choose from.

Cotton material is always a popular choice for the lining fabric or the outer fabric because it’s easy to clean and comes in a variety of colors and patterns. If you want something that’s more durable, try canvas or denim as they both hold up well to wear and tear but might have some extra cost.

If you want to get really creative and make your cover completely unique, consider using quilting cotton with a fun print. Just be cautious of directional fabric prints when you sew because if you miss aligning your fabric direction you end your outer piece might look weird. This will add a bit of flair to your kitchen while keeping your mixer safe and sound.

Whichever fabric you choose, make sure it’s machine washable so that the cover can easily be removed and washed whenever necessary.

Got everything ready? Alright, go grab a cup of coffee, turn on some good tunes, and start prepping. You got this!

How to Make a KitchenAid Pro Mixer Cover

Step 1 - Cut out pattern

First, before you start any sewing on your KitchenAid Pro Mixer Cover you’ll want to download and print the free pattern on heavy paper or card stock. Assemble the pattern pieces along the match lines to make one pattern piece.

Additionally, make sure to wash, dry, and press your fabric to pre-shrink it. Pressing the fabric will also make it easier to work with while cutting and following the included instructions.

Step 2 - cut out end pieces

Place the pattern piece on the back side of the fabric and trace around it while holding it in place. Alternatively, you can pin it in place on the fabric. You will need to trace two pattern pieces each for the outer fabric and the liner fabric.

Cut out two pieces from both fabrics, using scissors or a rotary cutter.

step 3 - cut out center piece

Cut another piece of fabric that is 16.5″ x 42″ from both of the fabrics. This will be for the CENTER piece between the two ends.

Step 4 - Pin together sides

The next step to make this KitchenAid Professional Mixer Cover is to attach one of the end cut-out pieces with the free pattern to the long side of the center piece of fabric by clipping or pinning it. Ensure that the right sides are facing each other as you do so.

Step 5 - Sew Sides Together

Put your sewing machine to use and join the two pieces together, sew them with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, using a backstitch at the start and finish. As you approach the turn, adjust the fabric slightly to ensure it stays aligned. Repeat these steps for the other end of the professional mixer cover.

Step 6 - Repeat and Trim Seams

Next, follow the last three steps using the other fabric to create a second cover. Once done, trim any excess fabric around the stitching to reduce bulk.

Step 7 - Fit Two Covers Together

Turn one of the covers right-side-out, then insert one cover into the other cover so that the RIGHT SIDES are touching. Clip or pin them together around the bottom edge.

Step 8 - Sew Bottoms Together

Sew the two pieces together with a 1/2 inch seam allowance, but remember to leave a 3-inch gap in the middle of one side. Additionally, make sure to use a backstitch at the beginning and end of your stitches for extra strength.

Step 9 - Fold Opening closed

To turn it right side out, use the opening you created. After that, insert the liner into the outer fabric and flatten everything out. Use clips or pins to secure the edges together in a nice neat fashion.

Step 10 - Sew Opening Closed

Use a 1/4 inch seam allowance along the bottom edge and stitch all the way around, making a backstitch at the start and finish. Ensure that the raw edges of the opening are turned inside to give a neat and cute appearance to your KitchenAid Pro Mixer Cover.

Fit it over your stand mixer and you’re done!
